About KMA

Practice Attire

All students are required to wear KMA shirts to class with the appropriate dance pareu/lava lava or pa’u skirt. KMA shirts are given at first class, unless size is unavailable, which then student can wear any black shirt until KMA shirt is received.

Additional shirts can be purchased. Please email us if you’d like to order.
Youth T-shirts - $20
Adult T-shirts - $25
Adult Tank Tops - $25

  • Hair should always be securely pulled away from the face. If the student has bangs, please ensure they’re out of the student's face.

  • No pants (jeans/stiff material/puffy/oversized). Leggings are ok.

  • Hula - a paʼu skirt (hula skirt) is required if the song you are learning is a Hula song. If you do not own a paʼu skirt please be sure to purchase one. Kumu will let you know when a skirt will be required.

  • Pareo - will only be allowed when learning Tahitian, Samoan, Fijian dances. Or in extreme circumstances an exception can be made at the Kumuʼs discretion.

  • Implements - If an implement is required for a specific class it is the responsibility of the student/parent to make sure that they have that implement with them. The studio does not carry extra implements for students to borrow.

  • As a Halau we pride ourselves in our appearance. The students will be performing at different occasions throughout the year, and we expect them to look their best. Clean nails free of nail polish, unless it's a light pink, clear or nude. We also ask that no student change their appearance drastically before talking to instructors (tattoos, piercings, unnatural hair color) as that can distract from the professional look we are trying to achieve. Some of these things may keep your child from being able to participate in a performance

ABSENCES

We understand unforeseen circumstances may come up which can prevent students from attending practices or rehearsals but we ask that you communicate with our staff if something does come up. We ask for at least a 24-hour notice that the student won’t be in attendance.

If the student has 2 unexcused absences (ie. No Academy Staff has been made aware of why the student won’t be in a class by the student or parent/guardian) they may have to sit out of performances. There may be exceptions, but the final decision on whether the student will perform will be up to the Academy Directors.
